  • Concord Centre defines its aims in ethnic field in pre-election campaign
  • Most popular parties in June: New Era, the Union of Greens and Farmers, and FHRUL

On Friday, the political party “The Concord Centre” held its pre-election conference in Riga. Boriss Cilevics, member of the party and MP, stated that if the Concord Centre is a part of a ruling coalition the main aims of the party in ethnic field would be: removal of all reservations to the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities adopted by Latvia; granting non-citizens voting rights in municipal elections; and granting the status of the official language of ethnic minorities to the Russian language. According to the public opinion survey conducted by the company "Latvijas fakti," the party New Era would receive 11.7% of votes, the Union of Greens and Farmers - 10.7%, For Human Rights in the United Latvia – 10.6%, if the Saeima elections were hold in June. The People’s Party (10.3%), For Fatherland and Freedom/LNIM (8.2%), the Concord Centre (5.8%) and the union Latvia’s First party /Latvia’s Way (5.5%) would also pass the required 5 per cent barrier.
