Seminar "Policing Hate Crime"

On 28 August 2006, Latvian Centre for Human Rights (LCHR) held a seminar "Policing Hate Crime" organized as a part of a three-year project on anti-discrimination capacity raising implemented by LCHR in partnership with Netherlands Helsinki Committee and funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MATRA funding).

Training seminar for media “Reporting on Closed Institutions (prisons, police cells, psychiatric institutions, detention cells for illegal migrants)”

On 30-31 May, 2006 the Latvian Centre for Human Rights in co-operation with MediaWise Trust (UK) organised a training seminar for media “Reporting on Closed Institutions (prisons, police cells, psychiatric institutions, detention cells for illegal migrants)”. The training was part of the European Commission funded project of the Latvian Centre for Human Rights “Monitoring Human Rights and Prevention of Torture in Closed institutions: prisons, police cells and mental health care institutions in Baltic countries”.
International conference "Independent Detention Monitoring of Closed Institutions in the Baltic States"

On 27-28 April, 2006 the Latvian Centre for Human Rights and the Association for the Prevention of Torture are organising an international conference on independent detention monitoring of closed institutions (prisons, police cells, mental hospitals, etc.) in the Baltic States and the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention on Torture. The conference is part of the European Commission funded project of the Latvian Centre for Human Rights and Ethnic Studies “Monitoring Human Rights and Prevention of Torture in Closed institutions: prisons, police cells and mental health care institutions in Baltic countries.”

The Latvian Centre for Human Rights with the financial support of the Canadian Embassy in Riga is proceeding with the second of a series of the four seminar cycle “Mobilizing Civil Society against Intolerance”. This seminar relates to racism and intolerance based on religion.
Study visit to the Netherlands on independent detention monitoring bodies

On March 1-3 the Latvian Centre for Human Rights (LCHR) staff Anhelita Kamenska, Laila Grāvere, Ilvija Pūce and Centre for Public Policy researcher Andrejs Judins visited the Netherlands to study independent local and national supervisory bodies of police cells and prisons, police and prison complaints bodies and visit several closed facilities.
Seminar "Combating Discrimination and Intolerance Based on a Person’s Sexual Orientation"

The Latvian Centre for Human Rights, with the financial support by the Canadian Embassy in Riga, is organizing seminar concerning discrimination and intolerance on ground of sexual orientation, which is first semminar of "Mobilizing Civil Society against Intolerance" Series.
